BFG Tech Announces Exit From Graphics Card Category, Continues On With Power Supplies And Laptops/PCs
Libertyville, IL – May 17, 2010 – BFG Technologies today announced their exit from the graphics card category. The company will continue to sell their line of BFG Tech power supplies as well as their Deimos gaming notebooks and Phobos gaming systems.
“After eight years of providing innovative, high-quality graphics cards to the market, we regret to say that this category is no longer profitable for us, although we will continue to evaluate it going forward”, said John Slevin, chairman of BFG Technologies. “We will continue to provide our award-winning power supplies and gaming systems, and are working on a few new products as well. I’d like to stress that we will continue to provide RMA support for our current graphics card warranty holders, as well as for all of our other products such as power supplies, PCs and notebooks.”
BFG will continue to offer RMA, telephone and email support for qualified BFG Tech graphics card warranty holders, but will no longer be bringing new graphics card products to market.

Momentan, driverele care se instalează automat pe win 7 (cel puţin la update driver), sunt compatibile cu fix-modul/crack pentru PhysX. Am cuplat GT240 + 5850 fără probleme, momentan testat în Mirror's Edge, Batman AA (PhysX high, FPS-ul stă în medie pe la 60, iar minim 50-55), Metro 2033, Fluidmark şi bechmarkul de la Cryostasis. Având în vedere că ambele plăci sunt silent chiar şi-n load, îmi iau gândul de la GTX470. Hell, la o adică trec pe un setup de 5 monitoare!Chiar și așa, având în vedere că e nevoie de driver doar pentru PhysX, lipsa update-urilor probabil nu va fi foarte gravă.

Link.A lot of you have been asking about PhysX and the 257.15 beta driver we posted on Monday. First off it is true that PhysX is enabled when running on NVIDIA GPUs when AMD GPUs are used in the same system. PhysX is a compelling technology that makes PC games great – I am not surprised our fans are eager for it. When using this beta driver no additional hacks are required to enable PhysX. While it was not intentional, due to the overwhelming positive response to the beta driver we have decided to leave the beta up with support enabled.
The fact remains that the investment to do a full QA cycle on this AMD/NVIDIA hybrid GPU configuration is beyond what NVIDIA can support at this time. The cost of maintaining AMD/NVIDIA hybrid configurations is larger than the development expense for PhysX, and I do expect that there are games and configurations where this type of system just won’t work. Please, don’t call me :>. Therefore our WHQL certified drivers will continue to have this support disabled.

Techpowerup managed to score a few detailed pictures of Powercolor's HD 5770 Evolution, the first graphics card that has Lucid's Hydra chip on its PCB. The idea behind the card is that it can be paired with any other graphics card, regardless of whether it's AMD's or Nvidia's.
After doing all this testing I am surprised by the range of possible scores, depending on how well you tune your driver settings. I am also shocked that neither ATI nor NVIDIA provide a good set of defaults that help novices get the best out of their graphics processor in regard to video. Another issue is the lack of documentation in both control panels. However, it is great to see that companies innovate in this field and offer adjustment options to power users. Now all that is missing is some magic algorithm that picks the best settings depending on the content played, so the required user intervention is minimal. When comparing ATI against NVIDIA, we see higher scores across the board on ATI and more elaborate options in the driver settings. According to AMD, a future Catalyst version will come with more video quality improvements enabled by the default, which should help ease the setup process.
